| Before you sign any documents or send money to anyone…Ask yourself: •When you look up the company in question with the Better Business Bureal (BBB), Google or Yahoo, do you find complaints or warnings from previous clients? •Are you being asked to sign a "Quit Claim Deed" or other documents that transfer ownership of your home? •Do they require a large up-front cash payment, with no guarantee of ever performing the services they promise? •Are they asking you to send money without a contract or agreement that outlines the details of the services that will be performed on your behalf? If you answered yes to any of these questions, be cautious you could have uncovered a scam. Unfortunately, many foreclosure victims have a hard time distinguishing the real solutions from a typical scam. Here are a few rules to start with: 1. Use a HUD referral. 2. Do not sign anything that transfers the title of your home to another party. 3. Get the details of your transaction, along with all guarantees and/or promises in writing. 4. Do not send money to anyone unless you know exactly what you are paying for. 5. Ask for references, and track them diligently threw public sources. |
